Dunkerque golf course review

Vauban Course

Hole 1 Par 5 447m HCP13
Needs a good tee shot if you are going to cross the ditch in two shots. Tackle the green from the left to avoid the water hazard.

Hole 2 Par 4 289m HCP 15
An up hill hole. Use an Iron for your tee shot to stay out of the trees, and the out of bounds on the left. The Green is very long, and choose your club carefully for the second shot.

Hole 3 Par 3 145m HCP 17
An exceptional hole. Take care not to overshoot the green - water hazard to the rear. Avoid the woods on the right.

Hole 4 Par 5 486m HCP 7
A Par 5 with the green practically dangling over the edge of the lake. The drive is pretty straight forward but accuracy is needed on the approach shot.

Hole 5 Par 4 370m HCP 3
A high tee box with splendid views of course. Drive over the lake and the triangle bunker. If you are shot with your tee shot then you may want to lay up because the green is elevated high on a double designed plateau.

Hole 6 Par 4 266m HCP 11
A short par 4 that is a real challenge for the long hitters. There is water both sides and again the green is elevated on top of one of those manufactured plateaus.

Hole 7 Par 3 143m HCP 9
A short par 3 facing into the countryside. Club selection is very important here as quite often the wind will be blowing from the lake behind the tee.

Hole 8 Par 4 370m HCP 1
A small and narrow fairway that slopes away to the left, so keeping the drive right is a good tactic on this difficult hole.

Hole 9 Par 5 490m HCP 5
Le Monster! Play an Iron from the tee, to avoid getting too close to the trees . Play your second shot to the left to avoid "La Mer de Sable" (The Sea of Sand!)

Hole 10 Par 3, 220 yards HCP 14
A long straight par 3, with water up and along the right of the fairway and to the back of the green. There is a large bunker on the right and the green slopes down towards the hazards.

Hole 11 Par 4, 365 yards HCP 10
The second shot to the green should be easier if you hit the left hand side of the fairway but be careful as there is a bunker that side over the brow of the hill.

Hole 12 Par 3, 169 yards HCP 18
A Par 3 that can be very difficult if the pin position is at the very back of the green.

Hole 13 Par 4, 405 yards HCP 2
A long Par 4 playing uphill to the highest point of the course, so expect it to be windy. The green is raised and protected by two grass-walled raised areas.

Hole 14 Par 5, 450 yards HCP 16
Possibly the best of the new holes at Dunkerque Golf Club. A high tee position with all the hole spreadout before you so you can spot dangers ahead. Stream to the left, lake and bunkers to the right. Narrow entrance to the green which also has those grass walls protecting it.

Hole 15 Par 3, 187 yards HCP 6
Stroke index 6 is unusual for a Par 3 and this should indicate how difficult this hole is. Water everywhere and a dangerously raised green protected by a bunker short left.

Hole 16 Par 5, 490 yards HCP 4
A long Par 5 playing up a steep hill form the tee. There is a long bunker along the right hand side and the fairway falls away to the right also, into the lake. The green is then perched over on the right with steeps banks sliding down to a watery grave. You must hit the green!

Hole 17 Par 4 381m HCP 8
Long par 4, Drive off to the right of the marker post to avoid the bunker on the left. Careful with your second shot - there is a ravine behind the green.

Hole 18 Par 4 363m HCP 12
Long hitters beware of the ditch crossing the fairway, the green is very long so choose your club carefully.

Fort Vallieres Course

Hole 1 Par 4 279m HCP 7
Short Par 4, a birdie is possible here, but beware of the water hazard behind the green.

Hole 2 Par 4 331m HCP 2
Aim your tee shot carefully - water hazards in front and to the sides For your second shot, play into the right of the green.

Hole 3 Par 5 441m HCP 3
Don't Hook it ! Play an iron from the tee to reach the green in 3, water hazards along both sides of the hole. Play into the green from the left, and avoid the out of bounds area behind the green.

Hole 4 Par 4 389m HCP 1
Difficult Par 4, Place your tee shot to the right of the fairway to avoid the long water hazard running along the left of the hole. Play your second shot to the right of the green.

Hole 5 Par 3 120m HCP 9
Short Par 3, birdies possible.

Hole 6 Par 4 320m HCP 5
Dogleg right, tee shot to the left to open up the fairway. Long green.

Hole 7 Par 4 337m HCP 6
Tee shot to the left - out of bounds to the right. Large green, choose your clubs carefully.

Hole 8 Par 3 201m HCP 4
Long Par 3, danger to the left - water hazard.

Hole 9 Par 4 281m HCP 8
Regardez le Ditch !!! Short Par 4, keep to the left of the fairway - water to the right. Out of bounds behind the green.
